John Jones, junior Southdown Ambassador from Rio, kept Southdowns in the spotlight at the Wisconsin State Fair in August. Case IH presented John with a $500 check for the Supreme Champion breeding sheep award won by his Southdown ram lamb. Gold Medal trailer also provides use of a Featherlite trailer for the coming year to owner of the Supreme breeding sheep, thus the Case IH tractor and the trailer in the photo backdrop. This is the first year for Case IH to provide the cash award and the first time a ram has won the overall Supreme title.
John received a second check from Case IH two days later for $100 when he took Supreme Champion Showmanship honors (over both market and breeding sheep) with his Southdown ewe that had also won the Reserve Supreme Ewe banner for John. Junior Southdown exhibitors had more showmanship awards and top scores in quiz and skillathon than any other breed. Congratulations and thank you to all of the Wisconsin juniors for being great ambassadors of the breed.
